CHRISTIAN CHURCH (DISCIPLES OF CHRIST) IN THE SOUTHWESTccsw.org
The CCSW includes 373 congregations across all of Texas and New Mexico and the panhandle of Oklahoma. The mission of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the Southwest is to be a source of vision, nurture, wholeness and mutual accountability in order to serve and to strengthen ministry in response to God's call to “become the Gospel, to share the Gospel and to serve in mission from our doorsteps to the ends of the earth.”

SOUTHWEST GOOD SAMARITAN MINISTRIES
Associated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) as a National Benevolent Association ministry (nbacares.org), SWGSM strives to build wholeness and dignity in the Rio Grande Valley by providing care and connections to needed services, and by gathering, storing, and distributing food, clothing, toys, and hygiene items on both sides of the border. More than 20,000 refugees have been helped with this ministry, working closely with Church World Service and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Volunteer work groups provide materials and work on facilities there and emergency repairs on homes of families in need.
This ministry is held during December for the Christmas season. We gather gently used or new toys for kids along with clothing, beans , rice, and other items. The boxes are delivered to those in need in the Valley and Mexico and is part of the Southwest Good Samaritan Ministries. This ministry is named after Mike Slaight who saw a need and began with a few boxes and has grown over the years.
FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH ANNUAL YOUTH AND ADULT MISSION TRIP
For over 25 years, during spring break, a group of youth and adults head to the Rio Grand Valley in Texas to work with our sister ministry – Southwest Good Samaritan Ministries, or to another area of need. These groups share life-changing adventures as they put faith into action through meaningful service and learning, involving physical labor, interactions with new communities of people, and deepening relationships with each other and with God.
