The people of God sing. Worship and music are as essential to each other as worship and preaching. Preaching and Christ-honoring music are not adversaries; they are partners in worship. Music is used to teach the gospel. The apostle Paul wrote to the saints: “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace …” (Col. 3:16), and “making melody in your heart to the Lord” (Eph. 5:19).
On Sunday, May 20 as we celebrate Pentecost in the 11:00 Traditional Worship, we will place special emphasis on the role of music within the congregation at FCC. In addition to our own dedicated musicians, including the Chancel Choir and our organist, Andy Rose, we will be joined by several guests, including long-time friend of the congregation, Dr. Lacey Hays on Trumpet and Mary Medrick, head of music at University of Texas at Dallas on piano. We can absolutely promise that this will be a service that you will want to celebrate and remember.
